This plugin is a Puppet Warp / Mesh Deformation Tool for DaVinci Resolve’s Fusion Page (Both Free and Paid Versions of DaVinci)

Bring still graphics, characters, and design elements to life with fast, art‑directable deformation.

After automatically building a mesh from your image or mask, you can place pins and move them to warp the mesh.

You focus on posing or animation, not wrestling with complicated grid warps or pixel-based tools.

Built to support a multi-layered workflow, this deer was separated into six layers in the free image editing program Affinity, then exported as a layered .psd file. Each layer was animated in DaVinci Resolve, all controlled by a single rig for all six layers using instanced Puppet Pin nodes!

Create Inverse Kinematic or Forward Kinematic armature deformers to make animation easier! In this setup, the skeleton’s legs are IK chains, and the arms are FK chains, visualized with the blue arrows. This makes character animation a breeze.

The fox’s tail is animated using a wave deformer, featuring an oscillator that moves the chain of pins back and forth. Perfect for tails, hair, capes and much more.

The head of this ostrich is animated with two follower deformers, both tracking the movement of pin 8. One controlling motion along the X axis and the other along the Y axis but with different amplitudes and delay creating a smooth, looping bounce.

Overview and Tutorial:

Ideal Use Cases

  • Character animation or posing, limb articulation & facial tweaks.
  • Animating illustrations, digital art or anime.
  • Animating cloth, hair, flags, foliage or adding organic “breathing” motions.
  • Perspective correction or stabilization.
  • Stylized and creative print warping for motion graphics and text.

Feature Overview

Mesh

  • Automatic mesh triangulation from non-transparent pixel regions.
  • Control density of interior points and contour points.
  • Optional secondary mesh mask input, if active it will use this input when creating the mesh instead of main input.
  • Mesh contour expansion to cover your entire subject.
  • Rebuild mesh on every new frame toggle, to warp video input!
  • Choose mesh color manually or automatically to organize layered animations.

Pins

  • Expressive setups with up to 64 animatable pins.
  • Per‑pin Position, Radius, Rotation, Expansion (expands vertices around pin), Render Layer (control overlapping triangles).
  • Per-pin Pull control, controlling how much a pin affects vertices, great for disabling pins during layered workflows.
  • Per‑pin Influence Radius to control how much a pin should warp nearby vertices.
  • Per-pin Visibility toggle, hiding pin overlay and viewer controls.
  • Global strength and influence mode controls.
  • Optional secondary weight mask input, lock down vertices in place with a mask.

Follower Deformer

  • Track the movement of another pin with separate X, Y, rotation, and expansion amplitudes and delays. It also offers optional automatic rotation toward the target pin and the ability to swap X and Y so that X movement translates into Y movement.
  • Animations look smoother when pins move in unison, and this system delivers that perfectly!
  • Followers can stack, allowing a single follower pin to be controlled by multiple target pins for layered movement.

Wave Deformer

  • Rotate one or multiple pins around a base pin, such as for creating wavy hair, flowing cloth, twisting tentacles, or swaying foliage.
  • Adjust stretching to lengthen or shorten pins relative to the base pin.
  • Built-in oscillator to move pins back and forth in a direction perpendicular to the chain. Like a snake!

IK / FK Deformer

  • Set up pin chains to function as either Inverse Kinematic or Forward Kinematic armatures.
  • Rig up your character for easier animation.
  • Switch between IK and FK in the middle of an animation.
  • Adjust IK middle pin bend direction.

Solver Modes

  • Adjust how your mesh deforms by using sliders to find the right balance between performance and quality. For extreme warps, it’s often necessary to increase these settings.
  • Single Frame Solver is the default option, resetting to the same starting state for each frame. For non-animating warps, it’s recommended to max out the settings since performance isn’t a big concern.
  • The Multi Frame Solver reuses the previous mesh as a starting point for solving, and with low solver settings, it smooths movement while boosting performance. It tends to look less stiff than the Single Frame Solver, though achieving perfect loops in this mode can be tricky.
  • Elastic Solver smooths animations and adds a springy settling effect, bringing extra life to sudden or twisting movements.

Locators

  • Track and output the position and rotation of a vertex or pin as it warps, then use that data with other tools in your composition.
  • Use the tracking data to attach assets to your animated subject outside the Puppet Pin tool or use it with a particle system to spawn particles on your animated subject.

Compatibility, Support & Refund

  • Download includes a PuppetPin.fuse file to be placed in your DaVinci Resolve or Fusion Studio .fuse directory. Installation instructions and a small user guide are included in a ReadMe.txt file to get you started.
  • Working on DaVinci Resolve 20+ & Fusion Studio 20+
  • Working on both free and paid version of Davinci Resolve.
  • Working on Windows, Mac and Linux. With NVIDIA, AMD, INTEL and Apple M-Series GPUs.
  • Lifetime Free Updates!
  • License
One license (“seat”) is valid for a single named individual.
You may purchase multiple seats and assign them to your team. Seats may be reassigned due to staffing changes; when reassigned, the previous user must stop using and uninstall the plugin. You can tune how many seat licenses you want to own by changing quantity at checkout. You can add more seats later by purchasing additional seats; seats stack.
A licensed user may install and use the plugin on any number of computers at the same time.
Redistribution, resale or sharing of the plugin is not permitted.
